Many reached out asking for a guide on enabling their PAN, Aadhaar, and bank accounts for their kids. Here’s all that you need to know about opening a minor account and the necessary link/guide to arrange their documents.
-
The guardian must already have a Zerodha account to open an account completely online; otherwise, they need to follow the offline process mentioned here.
-
Log in to https://zerodha.com/open-account/minor and complete the onscreen instructions.
-
The minor can hold investments (like stocks, mutual funds, etc.) and apply for an IPO, but they cannot buy equity delivery, intraday, or do F&O until they turn 18. The holdings can be liquidated/sold at any time.
-
Once turned 18, the account needs to be converted to a major category by doing fresh KYC.
-
Minor accounts have no account opening charges or Account Maintenance Charges (AMC).
-
To open a minor account, you’ll need the following documents:
- Birth certificate – must have the minor’s name printed on it.
- Aadhaar card of the minor.
- PAN card of the minor (if available).
- Minor’s bank proof – can be a bank statement, cancelled cheque, or bank passbook with IFSC and account details visible.
- Guardian’s documents – Aadhaar and PAN (since the guardian operates the account).
