I squared off my option trades at a broker (not Zerodha) midday on Jul 10 2025 and sold all my pledged holdings.
This resulted in an unexpected margin penalty from the exchange (NSE) as the margin file is updated EOD.
Perhaps known to experienced traders, it was not obvious for me at all how the exchange could levy penalties when I did not have any open positions.
No warnings from the broker on selling pledged holdings and they emailed only 12 hours before they would’ve forced sold my holdings to meet the debit balance, instead of the day the penalty was applied
Hopefully, someone can learn from my mistakes
