Query on the tata motors demerger

Continuing the discussion from Everything you need to know about demerger of Tata Motors Limited 2025:

I have sold Tata motors share during the demerger time when it was showing loss, exactly on the same day. All my 250 quantities has been sold at a loss. During the demerger times it was showing a loss of minus 40% or like that wrongly. Actually the loss percentage should be around minus 10%. In Zerodha report it shows that i have sold all 250 quantities which means I am at a loss of nearly rupees 98000. could you please answer me whether I would get back the lost money? Thanks for your quick reply.

Hi @Rajesh_C , there’s no actual loss here. The drop you saw in Tata Motors’ price was because of the demerger adjustment, where part of the company’s value moved to Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Ltd (TMLCV).

If you sold on that day, your trades went through at the adjusted price, so the loss shown was only notional. Shares of TMLCV have been credited to eligible shareholders under ISIN INE1TAE01010, visible in Console, and will reflect in Kite once listed. This adjustment is a normal part of the demerger process.

Hi Nithin, I am holding 200 shares of Tata Motors since last 3 years. Now i can see TMPV (200 shares) in my demat account, but Tata Motors is no longer exist. Are they be added in coming days or not?

Hi @Rajesh_C, your earlier Tata Motors shares have now become shares of two separate companies, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Ltd (TMLCV), in a 1:1 ratio.

For every 1 share of Tata Motors you held, you’ve received 1 share each of TMPV and TMLCV. The symbol has been changed from TATAMOTORS to TMPV effective today. You can refer to this post.

Hence, the 200 TMPV shares showing in your demat are from your earlier Tata Motors holdings.

Further, TMLCV shares are also credited to your demat, but not listed yet. You can see them under ISIN INE1TAE01010 on Console, and they’ll show up on Kite once listed on the exchange.
