For listed equity shares, equity oriented funds, and units of business trust, the holding period is 12 months. (if held for more than 12 months, they are considered long term capital assets)

@Gin

If shares or securities are held for 12 months or less, they are treated as short-term capital assets; if held for more than 12 months, they qualify as long-term capital assets. Therefore, if you sell stock purchased on 18 Nov 2024 exactly on 18 Nov 2025, it will be considered a short-term capital asset because the holding period is exactly 12 months.
