Revision in expiry day of Nifty Midcap Select F&O contracts from Wednesday to Monday

NSE has announced a revision in the expiry day of weekly Futures and Options contracts on NIFTY Midcap Select (MIDCPNIFTY) from Wednesday to Monday. The changes will come into effect from August 17, 2023. The expiry day for NIFTY Midcap Select monthly F&O contracts will be on Monday.

Expiry Day Current Expiry Revised Expiry Day
Weekly Contracts Wednesday of every week All existing weekly contracts will expire on Monday of every week. If Monday is a trading holiday, contracts will expire on the previous trading day.
Monthly Contracts Last Wednesday of the expiry month All existing monthly contracts will expire on Last Monday of every month. If Monday is a trading holiday, contracts will expire on the previous trading day.

How does this work?

  • At the end of the day on August 16, 2023, the expiry date of all existing contracts will be revised to Monday as mentioned above.

For example:

If the expiry/maturity date of the existing contract is maturing on August 23, 2023 (Wednesday), It will be preponed to August 21, 2023 (Monday).

The first MONDAY weekly expiry will be on August 21, 2023.

All the Nifty Midcap Select F&O contracts introduced for trading on or after August 21, 2023, will be created as per the new expiry day.

Does this affect my open positions?

No, this does not have any effect on the open positions you hold. The change is only in the expiry day of the contract. All other contract specifications remain the same.
