Selling and buying from position section?

I have a question about buying and selling stocks on Zerodha Kite. Suppose I purchased 100 shares at ₹200 each and sold them after 10 days at ₹300 each.

Later that day, the last traded price (LTP) was ₹250, and the position section showed a profit of ₹5,000. So, I bought 100 shares again at ₹250.

What is my profit? Is it ₹10,000, ₹15,000, or ₹5,000

Your actual profit would be ₹10,000 (STCG)

[Qty * (selling price - buying price).

100 * (₹300-₹200)

Since you again purchased that stock at ₹250 later on the same day, your actual cash flow will be ₹5,000 (amount credited to your account).

Regarding the P/L shown in the position window :

IMO The profit/loss that you see in the positions window mostly makes sense for FNO and intraday positions and not for delivery trades.

For Delivery/CNC trades, the profit/loss shown in the positions window is only a notional profit.

The positions window compares your buy or sell position with the LTP, to calculate the notional profit or loss.

In your case since you were able to sell 100 shares at ₹300, but the LTP for that day was ₹250, the notional profit was ₹5,000.This simply means that you were able to sell at a better price compared to the LTP.

Alternatively, If the LTP was ₹310 instead of ₹250, the position window would have shown a loss of ₹1,000. This is because you sold a price lower than the LTP.

For a delivery trade, the position window P/L is simply a notional value and not the actual gain/loss, so you can ignore it.
