Hi, I hope you can help me with a query? So I found shares purchased by my father who is no more. And I wanted to know how to deal with this. I checked and the company is very much active still and I have physical shares. How do I know the value of my shares including arrear dividend which I have neither I or my father have received. And also how do I go about transferring that share to me?
Hi, I am an advocate and also Options intraday trader. I dealt with such case as an advocate and succeeded and could transfer shares on the name of late. father on to his son.
Steps:
- You should have a physical copy of share certificate
- You should come to know whether your father made a nominee to that concern with concerned DP.
- If nominee is mentioned, that nominee should come forward and seek for physical share certificate to transfer on his name while submitting 1. Physical share certificate along with 2. an Affidavit saying you are the nominated person (Complete details you can get from DP).
- If no nominee is mentioned, then you need to get a succession certificate from Court while filing a case (Advocate will do). In this case after you get succession certificate from court, you should submit 1. Physical share certificate 2. Succession certificate and 3. Affidavit.
Contact me on 9491701582 (Whatsup), [email protected] (email) if you have any further queries along with clear image or scanned copy of physical share certificate and your’s and your father details along with address and death date and DOBs.

- Check the number of shares your father hold and multiply it with the current price of the stock.
- Check for any nominee assigned in the share (share certificate). If there is claiming with me easy.
- Raise a support ticket to Zerodha they will tell you the exact process.
- Since your father is no more, conversion to demat will not be an option as far as I know.
