Hello! I’m new to the stock market and I planned and observed patterns related to short selling certain equities. However, when it came to executing them on the market, it turns out only a few stocks are actually allowed to be shorted, as opposed to trading simulators where I can short any stock that fit my criterion.
What is the reason for such a limitation on shorting stocks?
