You can only sell those shares which are available in your holdings, short selling can not be done for long term in stocks.
Alternatively, you can short stock futures or call option or buy a put.
Carrying short positions overnight in the equity segment isn’t allowed in India. Only way you can do it is by shorting futures contract of that stock or through Securities Lending and Borrowing platform.
