Shorting stocks overnight

Zerodha is doing some incredibly good things. Kudos.

Why can’t we short stocks overnight(as in for 3 days or more) in Zerodha. Any particular reason for that?

I read the article on Zconnect it focuses on intraday, so couldn’t get an answer over there.

Don’t think you can short equity for more than 1 day with any broker in India. But one can do this using SLB though it is not at all developed in India yet, more here.

Thanks for the reply @siva. Looks like a good source of passive income for the lenders. As long term stock holders are there other options to make passive income from your stocks. Is it limited with stocks or can we lend mf or etfs?

Stocks only, also based on demand.

@siva I do understand SEBI is not allowing overnight shorts except using SBL platform from NSE. Is there is any plans to introduce some kind of direct trade terminal based on SBL positions from NSE instead of going to all cumbersome procedures currently we have ? Currently the volumes are very less due to very limited knowledge on SBL systems, I guess if we have a direct trade based terminals the volumes might bump up !!

Hope SEBI will allow overnight shorts at least in a decade from now :wink:
