Silver BIS Hallmark Optional?

Should one insist on BIS Hallmark on Silver items like coins or bar which has just purity embossed on it?
Jwellers seems to say BIS Hallmark is optional and high tier jwellers like PNG Jwellers etc

So is it optional? And not mandatory for Silver or there is some twist here?

Always insist for purity - that means BIS hallmark on gold jewellery + pakka bill (i.e. pay GST and get a proper bill).

Not sure if there is any hallmarking on silver items. But do ask them to mention the purity percentage in the bill.

Interestingly, went to WHP Jwellers they denied BIS Halmarking on Silver( though i as a customer can request for it, as per BIS) secondly they wont even write purity percentage on Bill…!!!

I simply walked away…

But it such a tough thing to get BIS hallmark silver items… i suspects there is a big game with silver items even with established jweller chains…

Better to buy silver bars & coins by MMTC which mention purity on their products and comes seal-packed. Sometimes we get 10% discount on some credit cards as well (usually on Amazon)

This is worrisome. At least they should mention the hallmark id but they are even refusing to hallmark. Wonder why it is so when it costs only 50/- max to get the item hallmarked.

Sorry i am not sure if a Silver Bar or coin has 99.98% embossed how is that mark of purity if not stated on bill?

For all i know that is a design that anyone can put , i can get a silver bar with 100% written on it for some extra making charges…

Aint this real or am i pushing the pedal to hard, without a certificate of authenticity from a authentic org how do we trust anything?

yes, same question I have.

Govt should mandate mentioning the purity percentage and hallmarking code on the bill itself as well.
