I have run into a corner case scenario. I was trying to update the ip on profile page .I had access to that particular ip through aws but system didn’t let me update it as someone had registered that. I was just testing things hence had no urgency but that might not be the case everytime.
what would be the procedure in case you have the ownership of certain ip through these cloud services but someone else has registered them in the past and not updated it and kept dormant? This can be a serious issue hence needs to be clarified.
I think there should be a check of verifying the ownership of ip at any point in time so that real owner of ip does not get affected.
You can create a ticket and we’ll help out. Unfortunately, there isn’t really a way to know if someone has conceded an IP they’d previously registered until the new owner reaches out.
But creating a ticket and resolution will consume time and put the real owner at the risk. Worst case scenario you should let user update ip even if someone else has registered it as it will be only be useful to the person who really has the ownership of the ip.
That wouldn’t be possible. It would lead to users being able to share IPs, which is a much more fundamental problem. While tickets may take some time, our average resolution time is now down to ~6 hours on working days.
But even if i raise a ticket how do you verify that I am the owner of the ip .And if you can then why not just provide api call which can be made by users to verify the fact that they are the owners of ip? why put the risk on real owners of ip to go through process which takes 6 hours which is quite long if it happens during market hours. It seems very inconvenient and risky .
