STT Calculation

My query is pertaining to STT. STT for delivery trade (Equity) is 0.1% and for Intraday is 0.025%…

Now lets assume I do multiple trades at various prices of a particular stock… For eg: I buy 500 shares of Eicher motors at Rs.6432 and sell 500 shares at 6494 and then again buy 200 shares at a price of 6560.

Now will my delivery STT of 0.1% be charged on my buy price of 6432 or 6560? Because if it is charged on 6432 then I will be charged STT of 1286, if it is on 6560 I will be charged 1312? Is there a way I get benefit of being charged lower STT?

STT for delivery transaction is charged on both buy & sell, Based on your example you are buying Eicher motors @ 6432 & sell @ 6494 on this transaction STT is charged @ 0.025% even though you bought & sold in CNC it will be considered as a intraday transaction & STT will be levied on selling side i.e Rs 811.75.

on the 2nd point if you are buying 200 shares for delivery then the STT will be Rs 1312/-

No, there is no benefit on STT charged .

Please note that STT is always computed on the Average price.

Let’s say you’ve done lot of buy&sell transcations, then the Exchange sums up the Buy Value and the Sell Value and divides it by the total traded quantity (buy+sell qty) and determines the average rate.

Hi Sameer,

Do note that STT is always calculated on the Average price. The Exchange does not follow FIFO (First in First out) or LIFO (Last in First out) to compute STT.

Let me explain how STT is computed. Before we compute STT we will have to determine the Average price:

Average Price = (Buy Qty*Buy Price) + (Sell Qty*Sell Price)
                / (Buy Qty+Sell Qty)

In your example,

Avg. Price = [Buy 1 (6432*500) + Buy 2 (6560*200) + Sell 1 (6494*500)]
/ [Buy 1 (500) + Buy 2 (200) + Sell 1 (500)]

               = 7775000/1200 = 6479.17

Now STT will be levied on 6479.17 for your Intraday and Delivery Trades.

Therefore,

STT for Intraday (Will be charged @ 0.025% on only Sell Side) = 500*6479.17*0.025% = 810

STT for Delivery (Will be charged @ 0.1% on both Buy & Sell) = 200*6479.17*0.1% = 1296

Hope this helps :)

My question was for which of the 200 shares delivery STT is applicable? Why can’t the Exchange charge STT delivery for my first purchase at Rs.6432

For 2nd buy of 200 shares delivery STT is applicable. Since the first buy is in intraday STT will be charged @ 0.025% & 2nd buy if you are taking it delivery then STT will be 0.1%.

Hi Praveen,
Could you please explain about the STT and turnover charges in zerodha.
Thanks,
Ashok

Guys, Topic is not active, however can anyone explain this?

i bought 25 stocks of eveready at 133 and sold 5 of them at 133.75 at CNC. Its showing profit of around 33 and in that 15+ is charged as fees. In the 15 i see 13 itself is STT. How STT comes 13 when its only 0.1%?

In Zerodha console it shows Rs13 as STT while in the PDF I received in email (Combined Equity Contract Note) it shows much lower of Rs2 including few other buys.

Is this a bug in Console report or am I missing something?

Thanks
Sumesh

Yes. I opened a ticket as well. Just got a bot response on STT charges. Hope some real person would look into it. Wanted to check here also If am missing anything.

Ahh there is a correction. My sell price is 139.75.

Hello @ShubhS9

I buy “BEL” @151 , 40 Quantity

(and after 1 day ) (This is a delivery trade)

I sell “BEL” @164.95 , 40 Quantity.

According to “STT” charges mention on website which is 0.1% on buy and sell side
My “STT” should be 13 rupees

“But as it is showing 93 rupees can you explain me why so ?”

Request you to create a ticket at support.zerodha.com. Team will check and assist.

Hello @ShubhS9
Actually i also buy other company stocks but i’m holding them does it occur because of this.

I only exit from this “BEL” stock after 2 days but im holding other stocks rightnow.

STT for delivery trades is charged on both buy and sell side. So when you purchase shares for delivery, STT will be charged for that transaction.

Always remember that the STT is charged on the average price. So now you can yourself calculate how much STT you have to give.
