The Suspiciously Slow Launch of SIFs

The SIFs (Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) - New Asset Class) was introduced and the framework was supposed to go into effect on the 1st April. It was expected that SIFs would be introduced to give access to more types of riskier investments - Including some Long-Short funds. The thing is, this makes a lot of AIFs obsolete since these are more flexible and have better taxation.

The slow launch makes me think the AMCs are dragging their feet on SIFs in an effort to keep their AIF business more attractive for longer. Eventually, we will see SIFs launch but right now it looks like the industry as a whole is trying to enjoy more investments in their AIFs.
