To Rebalance or not to rebalance - Smallcase

Hi all,

Looking for advise. I invested in CANSLIM smallcase in 2017 and after losses (especially during rebalances), I’m a bit confused whether I need to rebalance again or not.

So I started out with X and after 4 re-balances I lost about 5% each and stopped rebalancing when index value hit 80.

As of now, virtually there are no returns and for 3 years and I’m at 20% loss. Should I rebalance or just exit smallcase?

For the CANSLIM model to work it needs to regularly check for the criteria’s both fundamental and technical. You would be invested in those companies which meets those criteria’s and exit on those which doesn’t.

How come you are in losses? As per small case this model has provided 100% return since 2017.

That’s the catch. The graph doesn’t make any sense. So I’ve put X

1st rebalance (when index was 95) : it said to sell (X-5%) and buy for the same amount (X-5%)

2nd rebalance(index was 90) and the same story continued.

I’ve stopped rebalancing, assuming 2-3 rebalances more and my entire investment will be almost nill.

Does this graph “reset” after rebalance ? I don’t understand why they provide generic graph and not your own?

Most importantly, if these stocks were good only for a quarter that means they are not worth investing for long term. This might fits into “trading” and not necessarily “investing” for long term value.

Overall very disappointed with smallcase
