Trading in Indian markets

Hey everyone, I understand equity trading a bit, but I’m new to options.

I want to learn options trading properly from scratch, not through random tips. Where should I start : basics, Greeks, IV, strategies, risk management, paper trading?

Also, for Indian markets, if you were starting today, would you choose equity/futures trading or options trading? And how are they different in terms of leverage, risk, and holding period?

As you said new to options just dont go for anything else start from here:

I’d start with the basics before worrying about strategies. Understand how option premiums move, then learn the Greeks (especially Delta and Theta), followed by IV and risk management. Spend some time paper trading, but don’t stay there too long—trade small with real money because that’s where psychology comes into play.

If I were starting today, I’d begin with equities to understand how markets move, then move to options. Options offer leverage and flexibility, but they’re also much less forgiving. Most beginners lose not because they pick the wrong direction, but because they ignore position sizing, timing, and risk management. Those skills matter more than any strategy
