Unmatched orders cancelled by the system

I tried to place an order to buy 1 share for IOC but it says “unmatched orders cancelled by the system”.I had placed a similar order with a limit yesterday for Tata motors and it got executed when the limit reached the price I had set. Why is this not executing for me? I’m a newbie so please help

By what time did your order got cancelled?

It’s getting cancelled immediately after placing it

You may be placing Immediate or Cancel order.Sekect validity as day order instead of IOC.

I had checked this article but failed to understand why it got executed yesterday when I used the same settings. I’m not trying to do an intraday so cannot use validity as day. I hope I’m understanding this correctly. If I use day as validity then at the end of the day the stocks will be sold automatically if I don’t sell right?

It got executed yesterday because someone must be selling at the exact same price that you wanted to buy at.

Yesterdays stock i used was tata motors. I used the same setting of limit, ioc today for indianoil stock but it keeps getting cancelled with the above message. If i was doing something wrong then it should have given me the same error yesterday that I’m getting today right?

Why do you want to use IOC at all? Just use Day.

I used the same settings as per your screenshot with the exception of ioc. I do not want to sell stock on the same day so I’m using ioc. If I use day like how you’re using then I have to sell it on the same day right?

Day means I have to sell on the same day right? If I use ioc then I can buy it and keep it with me to sell maybe after a year. I hope my understanding is correct

No. Day only means your order will remain active (until executed) for the entire day. You can keep the stock forever.

MIS setting means you can keep it only till day end.
CNC means you can keep it forever.

DAY and IOC are about order validity.

@Gautam @anshabhi 'm reading and trading at the same time so maybe I’m missing out on the basics. No worries. I guess I’ll have to get more information but thanks for all your help in responding timely. Appreciate it
