NSE TAME web-link shows that there is Volume for Nifty Spot/ Index.
As far as i know, Volume exists only for tradable scrips. Since Nifty Index is just a notional underlying, why do we have Volume for that.

hmm, my guess is that the cumulative volumes of all Nifty futures and options contracts are showing up on Nifty index chart. The volume on the index chart is around 1.5million vs only 80k on nifty future chart. Nifty futures typically turnover 5 to 10% of option contracts, my reasoning behind the guess... :)

Its Nifty 50 stocks cumulative volume and turnover(cash). Though volume is irrelevant, turnover gives some idea about broader market participation.
