A quick look at how the markets performed in the week gone by;

Equity markets rose for another week. For the week, Nifty rose by 1.2%, while Sensex closed just shy of the 60k mark, up by around 1.1%.

Coming to sectoral performance, the PSU Bank Index was again the top gainer for the week, rising over 5%. Auto, Metals, Energy and Realty were the other top performers, gaining over 2% each.

IT, Media and FMCG, ended the week marginally lower.

Nifty and Sensex started the week higher, gaining around 1.3% and crossing the 18K and 60K levels, respectively. Dow and Nasdaq futures point to a negative opening for US markets.

As per the government data, India’s fiscal deficit between April to September came in at 37.3% of annual estimates i.e., Rs. 6.20 trillion ($74.91 billion). Net tax receipts rose to Rs. 10.12 trillion while total expenditure was Rs. 18.24 trillion.

L&T surged nearly 3% after the engineering & construction company said it won a significant order between Rs. 1000-2500 crore for its power transmission & distribution business in Saudi Arabia.

Small Finance Banks as a group will need to raise capital to the extent of Rs. 4,000 crore in FY23 and FY24 in order to maintain a 30% CAGR for advances. This factors in a 2% cushion over minimum regulatory capital requirements: Rating agency CareEdge Ratings.

Apple supplier Foxconn’s COVID-19 woes at its vast iPhone manufacturing facility in China’s Zhengzhou city could slash the site’s November iPhone shipments by up to 30%: Reuters

China’s October manufacturing PMI fell to 49.2 from 50.1 MoM and October non-manufacturing PMI fell to 48.7 from 50.6 MoM and composite PMI fell to 49.0 from 50.9 MoM due to more frequent flare-ups of COVID-19 and slowdown in exports.

GST revenue in October was the second highest ever as the collections rose 16.6% YoY to Rs 1,51,718 crore of which Central GST is Rs 26,039 crore, State GST is Rs 33,396 crore, Integrated GST is Rs 81,778 crore and Cess is Rs 10,505 crore.

The Manufacturing PMI rose to 55.3 in October from September’s 55.1, better than a Reuters poll median forecast for 54.9 as demand and output remained solid, encouraging firms to hire workers at the fastest pace in nearly three years, according to a survey compiled by S&P Global.

Sales of E2Ws met an all-time high of 75,294 units in October, up 30% YoY, and beat the number of E2Ws sold in September (52,975 units) and August (51,213 units) due to multiple product rollouts, rising production capacity, a wider range of options, and festival season demand.

After a tough October where the index lost 14%, Hang Seng recovered 5.23% today as mainland funds bought the biggest amount of shares since June after a sell-off pushed the local market into an oversold zone ahead of the Fed meeting.

Nifty and Sensex closed lower, snapping a four-day winning streak ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate meeting. US futures are trading lower.

Bharti Airtel announced that the company has crossed 1 million unique 5G users on its network, less than 30 days after rolling out 5G services commercially in eight cities.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a subsidy of Rs. 51,875 crore for P&K fertilizers for 2022-23 rabi season

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals announced that it has received approval from the US health regulator to market Sodium Phenylbutyrate tablets, used in treating urea cycle disorders, in America.

Brent Oil prices surged more than 1% to close near 95$ per barrel after industry data showed a surprise drop in U.S. crude inventories, suggesting strong despite steep interest rate hikes dampening global growth.

Benchmark indices recovered from gap-down opening and closed marginally lower following negative global cues. Futures on Dow and Nasdaq indicate a negative start for US markets.

Cognizant reported a 15% jump in net profit even as revenue lagged company expectations as uncertain macroeconomic conditions have started impacting bookings. With attrition impacting its operations, the company, in its Q3 results report, guided for a decline in Q4 and full-year revenue.

Turkey’s annual inflation accelerated to hit 85% and rose for the 17th month in a row on the back of a massive surge in food prices and high energy costs.
