TCNS Clothing closed 20% lower on the circuit after Aditya Birla Fashion (ABFRL), which also fell 3%, announced that it has entered into definitive agreements to acquire a 51% stake in TCNS Clothing, which owns brands such as W, Elleven, and Aurelia, for Rs 1650 crore.

According to the Geological Survey of India (GSI), significant lithium reserves capable of meeting 80% of the country’s demand and requirement have been identified in the Degana municipality of Nagaur district in Rajasthan.

As per industry data, OPEC’s share of India’s oil imports fell to an all-time low of 46% in April, while Russian oil raised to 1.67 million barrels per day in April, taking it to a 36 % share.

Manappuram Finance bounced back by 5% after clarification by the MD & CEO suggesting that the ED inspection pertained to a 10-year-old matter and that there are no governance issues in the company.

Indian Railways (IR) reported a monthly freight loading of 126.46 MT in April 2023, up 3.5% year on year, with freight revenue of Rs 13,893 crore, up 7% year on year.

Indiabulls Real Estate closed at 20% lower circuit after NCLT withheld merger with NAM Estates and Embassy One.

China’s trade surplus widened in April as exports grew at a healthy pace of 8.5% at $295 billion in April, despite weakening global demand, while imports shrank 7.9% YoY to $205.2 billion.

Saudi Aramco’s net profit in first quarter of 2023 dropped by 19% YoY to $31.88 billion on account of lower crude prices.

Benchmark indices fluctuated between gains and losses before settling with modest gains of nearly 0.3%. Dow and Nasdaq futures indicate a negative opening for US markets.

US CPI inflation came in at 4.9% in April on account of lower oil and gas prices.

Aarti Industries dropped 9% after the management highlighted a weak demand scenario in key markets and discretionary segment.

Foreign portfolio investors bought $2.2 billion of Indian stocks in the first nine days of May 2023, bringing the total amount of inflows since March to $4.5 billion after selling shares worth $4.1 billion in the first two months of 2023.

Chip manufacturer Intel confirmed that it plans to cut its workforce further to reduce costs with an estimated layoff of up to 20% of the employees.

The Bank of England raised its key interest rate by 25 basis points to 4.5% for the 12th time in a row in order to control the fastest inflation of any major economy.

SoftBank Group Corp of Japan reported an annual net loss of $7.18 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, primarily owing to lower tech valuations.

Hyundai Motor will invest $2.45 billion in Tamil Nadu to increase production and set up a battery pack assembly unit with a capacity of 178,000 units, aiming to reach a total production volume of 850,000 per year. They also plan to install 100 EV charging stations in the state.

Hindalco fell 3.5% after its subsidiary Noveli’s net income from continuing operations sans special items was down 7% YoY at $175 million.

Emirates made a great return after posting a $1.1 billion loss in 2021, earning $2.9 billion in 2022 after recovering from the coronavirus pandemic that halted global aviation.
