What are basic tools required for analyzing equity and F&O?

Personally I think, as a retail trader, the best way to start off trading is using technical analysis. The best part of technical analysis is that it will not let you go against the trend, which is usually the culprit for many people blowing up their trading accounts.

All you need to get started with technical analysis is a decent charting interface and knowledge. Check this out to learn about TA.

Options and Futures are sure way to loose money as these instruments are like gambling where in you place your bet.

The charts and indicators are forecasting tools for your wishful thinking.

In the end its the broker who is making money, not you.

How about as an investor?

Thanks Nithin for the Technical Analysis Handbook.
I will start right away!

Dear Cool_Investor - even when legendary investors invest, they are investing because they expect businesses to do well…in other words they are forecasting on fundamental factors. If you have anything to do with market, regardless of your approach then forecasting plays a very key role.
I guess its not fair to make generic comments which can potential discourage people from asking and seeking the right information.

Karthik - the legendary investors are forecasting and providing the capital to the business which is an constructive use of the money. No amount of information will suffice people who are only forecasting or speculating on the price of the instruments. There is always another gimmick or a tool available to deplete their bank balance.

Not all investors invest with a objective of providing capital. Anyway, you are obviously entitled for your opinion.

Let us get this thing right. Stock markets are here for price discovery. In any price discovery mechanism, you will have speculators as well as investors. And, futures markets were effective tools in this process long before the equity markets poped up. It is right that equity markets do provide investment capabilities.
Futures prices provide farmers an indication of demand. They provide electricity companies an indication of the amount of electricity to be produced so that the grid doesn’t fail.Finding the right demand is the way the economy strike a balance.
The stock market is a zero sum game. So, if you as an investor is loosing money, there is someone else gaining. Yes, it is true that the brokers do make money. But then they also provide service. If you are salaried or run a business, am sure you do make some money providing a product or service. Brokers are providing service, for which they get their share.
