What is mean by short position?

In Technical analysis model it is mentioned that take short position. what is mean it? whether short the Future contract or equity cash?

If it is equity cash then how to short for over night position?

Please explain.

Hi Trader,

You are right . To SHORT a position means to SELL the scrip first and later BUY it to close the open short position.

@ zerodha you cannot hold an equity short postion overnight, your open short position will be closed automatically by the computers at 3:20pm on the same day.

bro… first of all… Short means selling any stock… means you are assuming that stock will go lower from here… so, you short that stock…

if you want to short in equity cash, than you can short any stock for intraday by using cover order/ bracket order… but you cannot hold it for overnight… as i said it is just for intraday…

but if you want to short any stock…, and want to hold overnight or some weeks, than you have to short that stock in futures… or by purchasing PUT Option of that stock…

But sir in TA model they mention that the time frame should be 1 week
