Which index scrip codes I should have a look regularly to see how foreign markets are performing today?

In google finance or yahoo finance, almost all world wide scrips are available.

I am looking to monitor atleast 10 to 20 scrip codes worldwide (indices)

Can you suggest few scrip codes?

Edit:

I am choosing following scrip codes based on answers. Please correct me if wrong.

Nikkei is the Japanese Index.

I would suggest you look for US (NASDAQ, DJIA), UK (FTSE), German (DAX), France (CAX), Shanghai ( Shanghai Composite), and of course Nikkei.

This is more than sufficient to give a sense of what is happening in the world markets.

If you want to know how our NSE or Indian Markets will behave on a particular day, means if you want to co-relate, then check for Dow Jones and NASDAQ closing at night (I don’t know the exact closing time of American indices, but approximately by 1:30 or 2:00 AM IST it closes) so if it is positive, then most likely coming morning our NSE will be opening positive and vice versa.

Then, mornings have a look at asian indices like Nikkei, Shanghai and HangSeng (our NSE is mostly effected by HangSeng).

Another very good indicator, in the morning before NSE opening, you can check SGX Nifty, this one is a mirror image of NSE and Nifty will open exactly (plus, minus something) as per SGX Nifty rate at our that particular time.

Afternoon, NSE will dance to the tunes of DAX, FTSE and CAC (European Indices), if these are plus then NSE will also be plus and vice versa.

Here is the link to track the world indices. You can filter out based on region and the indices of your interest.

Thanks Karthik,
I posted this question to identify the scrip codes.
NASDAQ is having so many like NASDAQ 100, NASDAQ Composite etc.
FTSE is having FTSE 100, FTSE 250.
I dont know which one will be the default!
I am using google finance, for time being.
