We have been allowing both pre market and after market orders from the start. Check this post on how to place.
Hi DS2979,
I think you are little confused about Pre Market orders.
Pre Market Orders are orders placed by you during 9:00 am to 9:07 am. You need to follow the regular method how you place orders during a normal trading on day time. These orders are collected by NSE and Opening price is determined. If your price matches with the opening price, mostly your order will get confirmed (executed). Your order getting a confirmation could be once in a blue moon, since it is very difficult to guess the exact opening price. If your price is not matching with the determined opening price, then your order will be pushed to 9:15 am as a regular limit order.
Post Market Orders are orders placed by you during 3:40 to 4:00 pm. You can place Market order only (even if you place limit orders, it will be considered at market closing price only). If your order does not find any potential buyer or seller, your order will not execute and your margin/shares will be returned to you at 4 pm.
AMO or After market orders, I think this is what you are talking about. These orders cannot be placed during 9:00 am to 6:30 pm during daytime.
Reason: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm is the time in which some kind of trading is already going on, 9:00 to 9:15 Pre-market session, 9:15 to 3:30 regular trading session and 3:30 to 4:00 pm is Post Market session.
Since you reach your workplace after 9:00 am, I think you are not able to place AMO. So better try anytime in previous day evening. If you are looking at trade recommendations from some websites (which usually come closer to 9 am), try one of these below.
- Try placing a Pre market order with market price at 9:00 am to 9:07 am
- Wait until 9:15 am, place your limit order and keep it ready under password window, once time hits 9:15, place your order immediately, it will work more or less like placing an AMO.
I strongly suggest you look into the market for few mins say upto 9:20 or 9:25 before placing any order. (Based on personal experience, buying or shorting at 9:15 am have not provided good results to me due to erratic price movement)
Do AMO participate in Pre-open or released only in the normal trade hours?
AMO will be pushed only after 9:15 am, which is the opening of regular markets.
AMOs cannot participate in Pre Open Session.
@SandeepSinghRawat @AastroGuru I heavily push amos as a part of my strategy and many times they get filled in the 9:00 - 9:07 usually 9:02 sometimes i have got even slightly better price than my limit price eg my amo with a limit sell order of a stock am holding at price x got filled with price x.20 etc at around 9:02. hope this helps
@AastroGuru You mentioned that AMO oredr will be pushed after 9:15 am, So what would be the best option among AMO and Pre open to get executed my order in case of upper circuit, i know the next day opening price when it is traded in UC, then can i go ahead with Pre Open.
But few people are saying AMO order will get executed first as we are placing order before the pre open session starts.
