What is the total number of demat account?

CSDL & NSDL websites share this data -

Depositories	Number of Investor Accounts as of October 31st, 2020
CSDL	2,70,41,087
NSDL	2,05,85,127
Total	4,76,26,214

But a thing to note is that this data isn’t unique (aka the same investor with Demat accounts with different brokers is counted multiple times)

While there are almost 5crore demat accounts in the country, the number of people who have invested directly into stocks once in last year is probably around 80 to 90lk (unique). There are maybe around 1.5 crores who invest through mutual funds. So maybe around 2 crore Indians who are active in the markets directly or indirectly. Btw, I had shared this recently

What is total Domestic institutional trader and volume generated by them?
What is total FII and volume generated by them?

A lot of this data can be found via this page on the SEBI website (including the number of FPIs (which includes both FIIs & QFIs) and Indian Mutual Funds). Other than MFs, DIIs also include Banks, DFIs, Insurance companies, and NPS.

For daily volume data about FPIs and DIIs, rudimentary data about Buy/Sell value can be found on the NSE website. More granular data (aka segment wise like Equity, Debt, Derivatives, etc) about volumes generated by FPIs can be accessed on the NSDL website.
