Iceberg orders Feedback

@MohammedFaisal @Arockiya_Raja @ShubhS9 Any update on this, please?

Currently, there is no validation check here. We will discuss this and address it.

Can someone please explain the difference b/w Iceberg Orders and Basket Orders ? When should one choose either ?

no difference. Icebreg fires multiple orders (depending on how many you selected to fire) - usually used to make punching orders above freeze quantity easier.

you can do the same manually with basket orders. (although you can have multiple different scripts in baskets)

In an iceberg order, you can place a large order which will get split into smaller orders. The small order is first placed, and the next one is placed only after the execution of the first one. This significantly reduces the impact cost of large orders.

In a basket order, you can break a large order into multiple smaller orders, but when a basket is placed, all orders get placed simultaneously. So while baskets help place a large order which otherwise wouldnā€™t be possible due to maximum lot size per order, it doesnā€™t help with impact cost since all the orders part of a basket is placed simultaneously.

Iceberg order is chosen when you want to overcome the order freeze limit set by the exchange or when you want to hide your order queue from other market participants.

Basket order when you want to club orders of different or same securities and execute them in one go. You can use basket order to overcome the freeze limit but it is more work at your end hence is not preferred over Iceberg orders.

As for impact cost if you are using market orders in Iceberg slices or basket orders you donā€™t get to control the execution price and and hence slippage could happen. You can control impact cost only if you put limit orders and then you get to control slippage be it a basket order or an iceberg order.

@Nithin, been seeing this message since the last week or so:

Is this some new regulation or just that it always existed & being more strictly enforced now?

Market orders were really useful, espl. during volatile times like these when sometimes you have to exit ASAPā€¦

We were asked to block market orders as Iceberg is technically an execution algo, and algos arenā€™t allowed market orders. The way to get around this is to put a limit order at a higher price for buy and lower for sell.

@nithin limit order with bank nifty during expiry , will definitely end up missing few points there  ā€¦ Is there a possibility to have old feature of market order back with Ice berg order pls

Ah no, we were asked by exchanges to stop offering the market order feature.

By the way, if you placed the limit price slightly far away, it will act exactly as market, but with a protection of sorts too.

@nithin saw something new online ā€œ one cliqā€ platform for faster order execution while scalpingā€¦ isnā€™t it same like previous version of iceberg order wherein market orders were allowed for iceberg ordersā€¦ it has a compatibility with zerodha platform as well ā€¦ just had 2 questions on the same and would love to hear it from you

  1. is it safe to use ā€œone cliq ā€œfor order execution as previously you had mentioned Algoā€™s Are not allowed for order execution with regards to ā€œ market orderā€ as per the directives from exchange?

  2. secondly can we not have the similar order execution platform inbuilt for zerodha? As it looks really cool and smooth and will be a boon for Retailers when it come HFT during volatility periods

There are exchange regulations in terms of features available on a trading platform. What this platform is offering isnā€™t possible to be allowed on a retail trading platform. This taking the API route to work around is a regulatory grey way of doing it. Best avoided.

Thxs Nithin as always  but this platform is compatible and supported by zerodha as wellā€¦ should we still avoid it ? As for retailers order execution is really smooth while using it

No, it isnā€™t supported by Zerodha. Only the products listed here are supported by us.

As I mentioned earlier, all the 3rd party products built on top of us using our APIs or by building bridges come with a risk. We have no control over such integrations. It is best avoided unless you are exactly sure what is happening.

Hey @nithin sorry to trouble you again but was not getting proper response on the ticket I had raised for thisā€¦ after reading through your views abt third party appā€™s like 1cliq I cancelled my subscription of API from zerodha development page and deleted everythingā€¦ but Iā€™m still worried if my trade details are getting shared with this third party app as I had linked my zerodha account with this third party app secondly this app is not allowing to delete my user profile on their website which is extremely strange at the first placeā€¦
wanted to understand from you if itā€™s remotely possible for these third party appā€™s to track users trade on kite even if the subscription is cancelled from kite development page?

You can revoke the access as shown below.

Can you share the ticket number? We will check why you didnā€™t get the correct response. @Kalpesh + +

Please enable ICEBERG ORDERS

Currently, Sensex options are liquid only on the day of expiry. Once there is enough liquidity throughout the week, weā€™ll enable the Iceberg orders. For now, to get over quantity freeze limits, you can use Basket order or the Sticky order window feature.
